Discussion on Singapore Development with the President Director of Perumda Air Minum Tirta Raja OKU

STIE Krakatau, June 08, 2024 – On Saturday, the Krakatau College of Economics again held a public lecture with the theme Human Resource Management in the Public Sector: “What can we learn Singapore Development?”. The event was attended by STIE Krakatau students to provide in-depth insight into the development of human resources in the more advanced country of Singapore.

This public lecture presented Mr. Bertho Darmo Poedjo Asmanto, M.B.A., CIM, a President Director of Perumda Air Mineral Tirta Raja OKU, a local government company of Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency to meet the clean water needs of the community. Mr. Bertho, who is also an alumnus of Nanyang Technological University Singapore, shared his experiences when living and adapting in Singapore.

In his presentation, Mr. Bertho Darmo Poedjo Asmanto explained how a country as small as Singapore (compared to Indonesia) could be greater than Indonesia.

“How come such a small country (Singapore) is so much greater than us?” asked Mr. Bertho to the students present.

In his statement, he also said that the discussion was not to compare, but to be a lesson for the younger generation. He also explained about his experience when he first came to OKU after serving as President Director of PDAM Tirta Raja. At that time one of the officials questioned the official car used by him. Where the official said, he who is now an official should use a ‘better’ vehicle.

After sharing his experience, Mr. Bertho told the STIE Krakatau students present that an official should have an attitude of serving not being served.

“Singapore has a serving mentality,” said the Perumda CEO. Singapore upholds aptitude and attitude. Aptitude which means talent or intelligence and attitude which means attitude or behavior.

The students who attended looked serious listening to the speaker’s explanation. After the material presentation session, it was continued with a question and answer session, group photos and closing.


This public lecture is part of a series of academic activities of STIE Krakatau which aims to enrich students’ insights in preparation for the challenges of the future world of work.
